Reviews for Malibu Solar Plastic Flood Landscape Light with Three White LED's, Black #LZ415:
These lights are terrific and give off great light for as little as they are. I plan to buy more.
I bought one LZ415 solar light to light up the back door of our house in Florida. I mounted it on the eave just below the shingle line so the solar panel would receive full sun throughout the day. After one year the plastic cover of the solar panel was completely opaque; no sunlight could penetrate the plastic cover so the batteries could not recharge. I tried to clean it but apparently the plastic's molecular structure altered making the plastic opaque throughout. Hence, the light became utterly useless. When it did work it worked great! It cast an attractive light around the entry area making our guests feel more comfortable and grilling at night safer. But it's not worth $26 a year (at Home Depot) which I'd have to do. I sent an email to Intermatic to see if they have a replacement solar panel/battery compartment but no reply yet.
I own a half dozen of the individual Solar Flood lights, another half dozen of the 3 packs (same light design X 3 connected to a single solar panel) and 3 sets of the Bollard style lamps.
Let me say upfront - NO Solar Light on the market comes anywhere near these!
HOWEVER,please note that Solar lights are not the same as conventional lighting. Once you understand this simple fact, you'll enjoy this product.
They cast a relatively intense beam for about 5-6 feat and then the light loses intensity. They will illuminate anything 5 feet away but after that, become accent lighting. This is an obstacle that Solar lights have stuggled to overcome since their inception.....BUT WAIT....
If you want even more power, take a look at Malibu solar's newest offering, the LZ6002 series on their website (Google it) - Full metal construction,4 LED bulbs (vs. 3) and a much better design overall. It'll probably cost more, but looks to be the best Solar mini lights out there.
And finally,if even 4 LED bulbs just won't cut it,go ahead and purchase the Malibu LZ605RP Solar Floodlight - It's harder to find, but it has TWELVE LED Bulbs that cast a VERY strong beam through its focussed reflector. Definately the king of Solar floodlights under $60. If you can't find it anywhere online, call the company through their website and they'll sell it to you
It emits a nice blue / white light (much like moon light). Max distance is about 15 to 20 feet, but is more of a wide beam; so it is ideal for lighting up an entrance way. I've read alot of good reviews on this product over most others. I just bought mine but heard they last for a good year before the batteries need replacing.
I was diluting myself when I thought this solar powered,LED floodlight would allow me to illuminate Old Glory without having the pay the coal-burning,environmentally-unfriendly power company for the electricity.
Sadly this product can't provide the candle-power to illuminate much. Even with a full charge on a bright, sunny day,the light the LEDs cast that night is defuse. The lamp has to be with in a foot of the surface it's illuminating to be effective.
This device might be effective in lighting up your mailbox or house number if mounted very close to it,but as a yard lamp,it's useless.
